Statistics in the Community (STATCOM)
STATCOM is a community outreach program with branches nationwide. STATCOM was started at Purdue
University in 2001. Cornell has established a STATCOM branch to serve Ithaca. Students with the Department of
Statistical Science at Cornell University are members of STATCOM. The program offers the expertise of
statistics students, free of charge, to non-profit governmental and community organizations in the areas of
data organization, analysis, and interpretation.
Services Provided by STATCOM
Advice and assistance are offered on a wide variety of statistical issues including:

Use of data to improve decision making processes

Survey/sample design and analysis

Design and analysis of studies and experiments

Graphical methods of summarizing and gaining meaning from data

Use of data to detect trends and make predictions and projections
STATCOM is able to assist with study design, data analysis, and the interpretation of results, but
does not have the resources to collect or enter data.

Client Confidentiality
Consultants will not discuss a project with any person outside of STATCOM without the client's consent.
Conclusion of the Project
