New Option in the Statistics MPS:

Beginning in Fall 2008 the Master of Professional Studies in Applied Statistics will offer two options. The current MPS program will become:

OPTION I: STATISTICAL ANALYSIS

  • Survey sampling

  • Experimental design

  • Survival analysis

  • Linear and nonlinear models

  • Data mining and statistical learning

  • Time series and stochastic processes

  • SAS programming and statistical computing

The new option will be:

OPTION II: DATA-CENTERED STATISTICS

  • High-performance computing as it relates to statistics, data, and large (tera- or peta-scale) datasets

  • Advanced statistical programming and software

  • Databases - design, SQL, optimization, interfaces

  • Middleware, interoperability, scripting and associated languages (PERL, PYTHON, C#, etc.),

  • Cluster-, super- and grid computing

  • Visualization

  • Statistical modeling and analysis

Detailed curricula and requirements for the two options will be posted shortly.

To apply for Option II you must have solid background in a computing language such as C, C#, FORTRAN, Java, or Visual Basic. Please specify your desired option in the personal statement section of your application.
