The Statistics Seminar Speaker for Wednesday, Sept. 30, will be Dr. Ming Yuan, a statistics professor from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Yuan holds masters degrees in probability and statistics from the University of Science and Technology of China and in computer science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2004, he received his PhD in statistics from Wisconsin-Madison. A recipient of several awards, including the National Science Foundation's CAREER award in 2009, Dr. Yuan also serves as associate editor for several statistics publications. Title: Convex Regularization for Low Rank Tensor Estimation
Abstract: Many problems can be formulated as recovering a low-rank tensor. Although an increasingly common task, tensor recovery remains a challenging problem because of the delicacy associated with the decomposition of higher order tensors. We introduce a general framework of convex regularization for low rank tensor estimation.
Refreshments will be served after the seminar in 1181 Comstock Hall.
